Understand the Four Parts of Medicare
Turning 65 or retiring soon? You don’t have to figure Medicare out alone. At Schatz Benefits, we help Minnesotans understand their options and choose a plan that fits; whether it’s Medicare Advantage, Medicare Supplement, or a stand-alone Part D prescription plan. No pressure. No jargon. Just real help from real people who care.
Hospital & Medical Insurance
Medicare Parts A & B
Together, Parts A & B form Original Medicare. Part A covers hospital stays, skilled nursing, hospice, and some home health care-often premium-free. Part B includes outpatient care like doctor visits, preventive screenings, lab work, and medical equipment. A monthly premium usually applies.
Important if: You're turning 65, coming off employer coverage, or want access to both inpatient & outpatient care..
Medicare Advantage
Medicare Part C
All-in-one plans from private carriers that bundle Parts A & B, and usually Part D. Plus extra benefits like dental, vision, and gym memberships.
Great for: Those who prefer one card, one plan, and added perks.
Prescription Drug Coverage
Medicare Part D
Covers many common prescriptions. Plans vary by pharmacy network, formulary, and cost. We help you review your medications and choose smartly.
Great for: Anyone on Original Medicare who takes prescriptions.
Medicare Supplemental
Medigap
Helps cover the out-of-pocket costs that Original Medicare (Parts A & B) doesn't-like deductibles, copays, and coinsurance. Medigap plans are sold by private insurers and work alongside Original Medicare, not in place of it.
Important if: You want predictable healthcare costs and freedom to see any provider that accepts Medicare.

Common Questions from People Just Like You
When should I start the Medicare enrollment process?
Most people can enroll up to 3 months before their 65th birthday. If you're retiring later, we’ll help time your coverage correctly.
What’s the difference between Medicare Advantage and Supplement plans?
Advantage plans bundle coverage with networks and added perks. Supplements fill the “gaps” in Original Medicare and give more flexibility with doctors.
Can I change plans later?
Yes—there are specific times of year you can review and switch. We help you track those windows and review plans annually.
Will I need a prescription drug plan?
If you're not enrolling in Advantage with drug coverage, yes. Stand-alone Part D plans help avoid penalties and keep medication costs down.
What if I’m retiring after 65?
No problem. We'll coordinate your transition from employer coverage to Medicare and make sure you don’t have a gap.
